UFC 249 cancelled

Despite Dana White’s best efforts that “the show must go on”, the cursed UFC 249 fight has been officially postponed, with TMZ Sports reporting that high-ranking execs at both ESPN and Disney advised him to hold off on the fight on account of the coronavirus.

For those taking notes, this fight has been called off 4 times already in the past. And then just last week, Khabib Nurmagomedov was removed from the card, stating that he was stuck in Russia because the borders were being locked down.

White replaced him with Justin Gaethje, with plans to move ahead with the fight at the Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, CA instead of in Brooklyn, for obvious reasons.

But now, Dana White is finally doing what he should have done in the first place, calling off the fight in the wake of this international crisis.

“I got a call from as high up as you can go at Disney asking not to do this event on April 18,” White said. “One thing you’ve heard me say is how awesome this relationship has been with ESPN. So when they call and ask me to not go, obviously, I’m going to respect it and not go.”

Here’s hoping that the world returns to normal sooner than later and we can get UFC 249 back on the books!
